interior designs of lofts belong to the most difficult. you have to suppress a certain crowdedness that is inherent in these spaces and that exists due to the shape of the beams and roof.

in this case, we wanted to discover a new architecture not typical for lofts – organic, natural, and dynamic. we worked with basic materials and created two wooden waves flowing against each other. the larger of a lighter shade is composed to the full height of the loft, while the smaller one of a darker shade is placed only in the confines of the constructed floor. the floor curves up and becomes the wall and “ceiling”. in contrast to this strictly defined shape in the interior are the transparent and mirror-like surfaces and shapes that let through or reflect daylight and artificial light. materials used: white onyx, molten glass, light corian, mirrors, stainless steel and glass.

organic forms and natural materials also appear in the other interior components. examples are the bathtub designed as an “eggshell“ and etched out of limestone; the fireplace beaten out of sheet metal into the shape of an “egg”; or lamps whose shades are made from real ostrich eggs.

although this flat is in the centre of the city, you cannot practically see the city. the inside space closes in on itself and acts as a comfortable refuge from the world. however, it does not come across as dark or crowded thanks in part to the horizontal roof windows that also serve as the floor of a small private terrace.
