emporio café jindřišská
this newly created café space with a built-in level was created by closing off an arcade near wenceslas square. a part of the original decoration in the arcade was a black and white mosaic made by the artist sýkora in the 1960s, which is incorporated into the interior of the café. the optical effect and visual style afforded by mosaic became the starting point for the design. the structure of the bar loosely paraphrases another structure by the same artist. the lighting – custom-made chandeliers – and the installations – eggshells on the wall of the café – are also resolved in the spirit of visual principles based on repetition of shapes and structure.
the strict geometric order of the artistic structures contrasts the natural motifs on the tabletops. the laminated surface of the tables is imprinted with an enlarged dandelion head. the paint on one of the side walls is another softening component, with red gradually changing to white.
